Emulation in general

Hello. I have been out of the "emulation circle" for quite a while and now that I have returned I feel as I have never been here.
I would like to ask a series of questions regarding the emulators for more recent consoles like the psp, ds, gamecube, ps2, xbox, or even ps1 and sega saturn for that matter.

1. The emulators concerning these consoles are meant to play original games but instead of playing them on the console play them on pc OR are they meant to play roms like GENS and Project 64 for the Mega Drive and N64? Or are they meant to do both?

2. Which emulators are designed for Roms and which are designed for original games (concerning these consoles)?

I will refrain from more questions for now.

Thanks for your time :)

1. I don't understand your first question.

2. ROMs are game dumps from "original" cartridges. On CD/DVD-based consoles, there are mainly two ways to load games:

a) The original/backup CD/DVD.
b) ISO image.

There are emulators so you can play console games on the PC.

There are also emulators for SOME consoles, that allow you to play older console roms on them.. Like playing NES on your Dreamcast, for instance..

Determining which does what, is as simple as common sense and reading.
