Earthsiege 2 in windows 98

I'm trying to install "Earthsiege 2" in Windows 98 emulated by retroarch through their dosbox pure core. I've got a working windows 98 system through retroarch and I would think a game made in 1996 would be compatible with windows 98 but when I try to install or run it I get the message “program error integer divide by 0” and nothing gets installed.

Is it okay to put where I found this game since I do believe it is technically abandonware or is that a no-no on this site?

Please do not link to it.

Also, you should try using PCem if you want to do win98 stuff. It should be more reliable.

You can do the same in virtual box but it is for other use generaly to "emulate" os.

Thats all.

My suggestion was strictly for old windows95/98 era games. It will perform better and even emulate period correct hardware.

Virtualbox works well for more modern operating systems, and definitely not for gaming.

It took me a lot of work to set up windows 98 in retroarch, I really don't want to go through that work again in another system I'm not familiar with. Besides, the reason why I want to set the game up in retroarch is because they have save states. Last time I played this game (when I was a child) it only allowed saving after missions, not during. If I wanted to play this game without save states I would just set this game up on my windows 10 using downloads meant for use on a modern operating system.

I was able to find a version of the game that works with windows 98. The game wanted windows 95 and I guess windows 98 was too good for it.
