'Portable' emulation

Hey everyone, if i wanted to have a hard drive with everything on it, such as emulators games and other data, so in the future when i get a new PC i can transfer all data over to it and have a 'portable' gaming setup, would i have to worry about the new PC's CPU/GPU not being compatible with my old emulators and such? or would all CPU/GPU work with emulators, basically does emulators have specific CPU/GPU and need a certain one for it to work? or would all work with it in the future? thankyou!
