epsx graphic configuration help

i have noticed that some games like metal gear solid dont run well on my epsx emulator but other games like resident evil 2 work fine.... i am still a little confused on how to tweak it right for certain games.... or which plugins work best...my pc has a dual core 1.6ghz processor i dont know if it is too slow to run certain games....any help would be appreciated... thanks
