Help with mapping ps2 controller

Now, either I'm missing something, or Im just a complete idiot. I've got the controller to work, i can play MK1 2 and 3 with it, which is all I use MAME for. But, I need help mapping the controller(s). Its really weird, low kick is l2, block is x, high punch is circle, and I've tried to map them myself, but everytime I do, I usually end up double mapping a button ,causing my character to not move or do something really bad. So if anyone has a suggestion or a controller map of their own that I can use for Mortal kombat games on mame32, please, tell me. Its frustrating not being able to play my favorites.

If you are playing with the direct ps2 controller i can't tell you nothing , but if you are playing with the USB converter that lets u use the ps2 controller as the joystick , just press TAB at the MAME screen when the game is loaded and select input this game , in my PC actually works , hope in yours too will work. It's very simple as i 've described it.

You know Mame Plus and the other integrated front end with the orange icon for an executable file do not include buttons for games, but Mame32k 0.64 has them.

For example in Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel vs. Capcom 1:
Three Kicks
Three Punches

The key mapping in Mame Plus

The key mapping in Mame 32k 0.64 with the buttons Mame Plus is missing highlighted. Is there a way for me to map these buttons to something in Mame Plus?

Also, how do I enable HQ3X in Mame Plus?
