Hi there everyone, I'm completely new to the world of retro game emulation. I need some help because my fella has asked me to get him a PSP for Xmas. Which firmware is the best to be able to use the console for emulation? Also, is there anything else I need to know before I go and buy it?

Thanks!

Well first its hard to find the old firm's out there. And spony tries to update your PSP contently.

Looks like Sony tried to slip us one in their latest PSP Firmware update. Sure it's got a new memory saving mode for the PSP's web browser and support for new PlayStation Network games, but what they didn't tell you is that for homebrew fans Firmware 3.10 will secretly brick your PSP. Anyone out there install the new update? – Louis Ramirez

- So its a hard call...

this may help you..

also there is a good 2.60 and lower hack.

I here getting your hands on firmware 2.71SE-A is a smart choice..

but most of the 3.x's are not a good choice...

Hey Rocky, No there is no poof 3.x's are new you just never know till its been out for a while. Bottom line is Sony is "trying" to crack down. You can't say they don't have more tricks hidden for us. Then again it may prove to been a very hackable FM. Either way there is no definitive proof yet.
