The region of Houston suffers from large amounts of litter and graffiti that hinder the beauty of the city, and create chaos. Curbing this nonchalant dumping of litter and overuse of graffiti is one of the action areas short listed by the Quality of Life coalition of Houston. The coalition understands that it would require volunteer enhanced clean-ups and education. Secondly it would also require the creation of a public education program, patterned after the successful Don’t Mess with Texas Campaign.

The coalition plans to achieve this through clean neighborhood programs in which it works to ensure success and expand to all 88 super neighborhoods. It also works by comparing Houston’s ordinances and city services to those of the competing cities. It aims to develop a coordinated approach to public relations effort.

The Coalition was founded by Richard Weekley of the Weekley Development Company and also comprises of many other achievers in different fields. This includes Ann Lents of The Center for Houston’s Future, Charles E McMahen of Compass Bancshares, Bill Coats of Coats, Rose, Yale, Ryman & Lee, among many others. The organization works in tandem with many government officials, private citizens, organizations and agencies to ensure sound planning, adequate funding and the appropriate implementation of the goals of the agenda.
