TGB Dual Netplay Questions

A friend of mine and I are planning to do a Netplay game with TGB Dual and I have a few questions.

There are some weird symbols in the status area. What do they mean? When will I know if everything is ready to go and we can start playing?

I have a desmume emulator for the nintendo ds but if i download a game and open it i only see black no game thing ur sumthing do i have to put a other thing in the program to let it work or not
PLzzzz help..
