Why do the roms for it have like 30 files?

Put the rom in your rom folder. It's got to be in .zip or .rar format.

Start Mame and go to File > Audit all Games.

The games will show up in your Avaliable direcotry if they are working and supported by Mame.

Because for each game, every single chip on the arcade board has it's own ROMfile.

In addition, depending on the ROM Set you have, it may be one big file including the original game, and then clone games, etc.
