Using VisualBoy Advance 1.8.0 Beta 3 is it possible to bind Auto-fire to to a controller button?

I know you can bind a keyboard key press to trigger Auto-fire but is it possible to bind a controller button to it. When I open up the bind screen and it prompts me to hit the button to bind to, it doesn't show up when I hit the button on the controller.

I suppose I could always bind the controller button in the controller set up to emulate a key press and then set the bind to that key, but is there a more direct route maybe for those that don't have the option of binding a key press to a controller button?
