Broken Sword I - Shuddering sound??

Hiya, I've installed Broken Sword I, there are actually two ways of installing, there is a old DOS installation setup and a slightly more advanced one, but whenever I install using the SETUP.exe I can't actually play it because it keeps on asking me to insert disc 1. Anyway I've installed it using the dos one but using VDM Sound to run it and I've installed using the minimum option, before you install you have to setup the sound, I've tried everything, but there's terrible shuddering instead of sound when I play! I think I have the Beta version of the game, because when I picked No device on the sound setup, a black screen came up and said the Beta Version of BS requires a sound card, but I don't want none of the sound drivers on the list but my own. I know that the fact it's Beta might be the problem, but I can run it, but no sound, What can I do???
