By having a S3 Graphics and an AC'97 audio I assume you have a Biostar motherboard (like me). This board has VIA chipsets so you can find the drivers for them at VIA Arena.

But there you'll find two types of audio drivers: AC'97 and Vinyl. Any of them works, but I strongly recommend that you install the Vinyl one.

Thanks, all of this stuff is really annoying me now! Right I've tried downloading 2 Vinyl types, I've tried the 1st one and 3rd one.

Can you look here nad help me please!

    http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1010

I've tried installing the 3rd one but all I get is a music deck thing and now my sound doesn't work, it's all really annoying!

Can you tell me which one you think is best to download?

Here is my FULL computer profile, certain drivers are more suited to different motherboards etc, can you help. I understand I need a driver a codec and a third party device, here ->

Get the basic one. It's the third one from above:

    VIA Vinyl audio codecs: VT1612A VT1613 VT1616 VT1617 VT1618

Hi! I've downloaded this, tried updating the C-Media AC97 Audio Device Driver but it didn't allow it to, couldn't reach location, but it did once but it said it couldn't find any better hardware. I've tried updating the driver for all 3 audio components:

    C-Media AC97 Audio Device

    MPU 401 Compatible MIDI Device

    Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device

But no luck on any of them...

Oh, yours is not VIA but C-Media. Try Googling (yeah, it's officially a verb) for C-Media drivers.

Hi yeah, I've been looking around I've found one and have just installed it, it was described like this. The driver date and code is different, my previous driver date was in the year 2001, but this one is 2004, so it should work.

    C-Media CMI9739A/9761 Software Audio Drivers

Support model All MSI MB with onboard C-Media CMI9739A/9761 audio codec controller.

Description • Support C-Media CMI9739A/9761 audio codec controller
    • Driver version: 5.12.01.0044 (WinXP/2000/ME/98), 5.12.01.0008, (WinXP 64bit)

    Date - 2004-12-7

    Site Link - http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...=3&CHIP=3&ID=1

2nd to bottom, is the one I downloaded and installed.

Do I have to connect a different codec or what??? I understand there is 3 differnt comonents do I do have to connect something or update all devices?

You really need to find out what model and brand your motherboard is, so you can go look up its technical details, then you will know for sure what audio chipset you have and what drivers you need
