The Specialist does it again:

Movie Clip

Impressive.But...the guy won't release anything else but the movie clip.
Doesn't want to f*ck around with MS.

The movie shows a boot of a PGR3 backup.

I havent seen the clip my self but I read about this on 360updates and one of the comments suggested that this was faked cos theres to many wires going into the TV. One of them possibly being a feed playing back a video of PGR.

Not fake...the dude that did it is believable.
He did the same stuff with xbox 1.

I'm not getting anything but the Nintendo Revolution. I'm tired of this PlayStation/Xbox thing, just because everyone have them and I don't. It's my life

Sorry, that's what everyone thinks about me.

"Hey man, why not getting a PS? It's teh cool!"
"Give up with Nintendo, man. It's for kids."
etc, etc.

<-- And I make to them like my bear

F*ck fashion, one of the things I dislike in this world
I love to be unique, you know.

I am a PlayStation fan myself.
Nintendo...it's mostly for kids, but for old-school gamers too.
The new gen of kids hate Nintendo 'cuz they grew up with Sony and MS....
I grew up with Sega and Nintendo :D,but Sony rules my gaming needs.

Emulators bring back the old joy,and even help me finish game unreleased in US and Europe (such as Wonderboy IV)...or Castlevania stranger ports as Sharp X68000 and PC-Engine.

I love to be unique, you know.
Ho...I mean,girls like that. :p

Sorry..I posted this a bit late...but I knew about it BEFORE the PS3 announcement... :D
I mean this hack is confirmed a bit later than PS3 fall 2006 launch is a fact. Sony's decission was more or less expected a while ago, and also this hack (when the original XBox DVD hack), but knowing working backups are possible some people might consider getting a Xb360... and PS3 is still half a year away :msn_light A coincidence?

Too bad it has already happened so soon, though it is not that easy to do. I also think (as read in one of the links) that Xbox Live will be a strong advantage for MS over piracy.

Looks like not everyone agree...

LIVE and Updates ...

Can you go on LIVE with this hack?
Well the firmware isn't released, so noone can try, but I'd guess it would work yes. The Xbox 360 itself is fully in 'normal state', nothing is modified to the Xbox 360 itself, it just gets 'wrong' info from the DVD drive. Of course if you start modifying non-signed files (like textures, ini files, ...) in order to cheat on LIVE or so MS could easily check for that.
Can Microsoft stop this firmware hack with forced LIVE updates?
They could probably try detect a basic modified DVD firmware, but anything the Xbox 360 asks to the DVD drive goes via the DVD firmware, and if the firmware is 'open' in the hands of the hackers the firmware can probably each time be modified again to give the reply that the console expects. Microsoft could maybe do more with a HW security update ... but I'll let them analyse that.

...and it will be tough as hell to hack BluRay,even the Sony PS3 delay was caused by the fact that the antipiracy system in BluRay isn't finished yet.
The again...anything is hackable.

Every time LIVE has an update..hackers will have one of their own updates...

Thats basically how the psp is going. And if M$ found a way of checking the firmware on the drive that stopped you going on live you could just buy a second DVD drive and swap them over.

To quote from the article I linked above
...
Each Xbox 360 DVD drive has a unique key, if that key doesn't match what your console is expecting your DVD drive will not work.
So next you will need to read your current firmware chip with special hardware (flash programmer), to find your unique DVD 16 byte key (stored at 0x4F00). Then you'll have to insert this key in the modified firmware (or patch your original firmware) and program this modified firmware back on the firmware chip. Then put the firmware chip back in the drive, close DVD drive and Xbox 360 and I guess you're done.
...
maybe it's a risky (desperate?) tactic from M$, like Sega did with DC, Sony with PSP...

So you think MS did it themselves ? :D
Like stories back in the day when PSOne got its modchip...some people said it's Sony releasing the stuff.
