Thread: using controllers with emulators?

  1. #1

    Default using controllers with emulators?

i've played with nintendo and super nintendo emulators for a while, always using the keyboard..
but i was wondering if any emulators will allow me to use my logitech dual action game pad...

i'd really like to get an N64 emulator going, but i feel like it would only be worth it if i can use a game pad... a keyboard would just be really awkward

    thanks

Most emulators will work with your game pad as long as they work in the Windows control panel. I don't use a game pad that often, so perhaps someone else knows more

alcoatjez is correct. If its shows in control panel it will work. Some joysticks have a map to key feature that really helps. Almost every game system joy pad has an adapter. PSX, SNES, N64....etc. Most people just buy a psx/n64 usb converter and it does everything you need. The n64 has a similar layout to sega, and a psx matches snes. You will most likely find this helps you a lot. But yes you can play an emulator with just about any joystick you buy. TIP: this simpler the joystick the better for an emulator.

Some emulators like Gens might not support your gamepad even if it's Direct Input compatible.

If you're using a gamecube pad, you wont be able to use a wavebird, it has to be wired. Make sure to use the right plugin, I'm using the N-rage plugin V2, and test your settings repeatedly, making sure to disable mouse control. If control pannel recognises it, then you can asign keys the same way.
