Thread: Looking for a new video card

Default Looking for a new video card

    Dell 4500
    Pent 4 2.0ghz
    768mb DDR pc2100 ram
    Windows XP Home

I am currently running on a AGP Nvidia GeForce MX420 64mb video card and that plays all gens/snes emulators at full display capabilities, but when running epsxe or project 64 I can only keep things at default or basic, same goes for most pc games.

I am looking for decent 128/256mb video cards under/around $100. I don't know much about video cards, I think 256 is better, but here's a list of the one's I'm looking at and if any of you could, could you tell me which is better for the money and which one is actually the best of them:

    -Nvidia Quadro4 980 xgl 128mb agp - $110
    -ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb agp - $85
    -Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 256mb agp - $90
    -ATI Radeon 9550 265mb agp - $90
    -ATI Radeon 9250 256mb agp - $65
    -Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 256mb agp - $70
    -Nvidia GeForce 6200 256mb agp - $85
    -Nvidia GeForce 5500 256mb agp - $90

Thanks for any help and if you know of any others for around $100 with shipping that are better let me know.

The ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb seems like a good choice for most modern PC games and many emulators.

forget the quadro, youre not really supposed to buy those (its a graphics intensive workstation card, CAD crap)

256mb is pointless for all the cards you listed: their cores are too weak to utilize all that ram.

if possible, get a used 9800pro, second choice would be a new 6200 unlocking 4 pipes to turn it into a 6600.

i'd take the 6200 over the 9600, both are pretty shitty cards, but the 6200 has the chance to be unlocked and SM3

What about a Nvidia GeForce 6600 256mb 8x agp for $130, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb agp for the same price, or an ATI Radeon 9800 256mb agp? Which one is better?
