CONTROLLER MAPPING

im not sure how to get the controller to work i changed the default options and turned on the enable joystick input but it still doesnt work i went to controller mapping and switched the paddle,dial,adstick,trackball,pedal and lightgun devices to joystick also what is the x and y axis and rudder it give me the option to click those off they all have the name of my controller next to it??? If someone out there can please let me know how to use my controller step by step instructions please you can email me to LorenzoHernandez@msn.com or just post it here i would be greatfull and vert happy thank you oh yea im using mame32FXpp
