GENS and FCE Ultra controller

I am trying to find out if there is a computer controller I could hook up to my usb port and use it in these emulators. I can't use the arrow keys and the other keys very well to play these games and would prefer using a controller. Do controllers work with these emulators? If so is there a particular kind that works best? Any help with this would be appreciated.

kega is better than gens as for the game pad i use saitek there good and they work on mame,zsnes,kega, game boyadvance and they are only $19.95 at walmart anyway the more buttons you have the better my controller has 8 on it
i think you can still get the one i got saitek p2500 rumble

I'd say 99% would work for DirectInput compatible stuff. If you already got a console gamepad like PSX/2, GC or XBOX, you might buy a USB adaptor for them, which are pretty cheap and work flawlessly
