Help getting started w/ my ZSNES plz

I downloaded FFIII for the ZSNES and I cant get any of the keys to work, except the fastfoward button and the 1234567890 and Fkeys and stuff.
I tried to configure the keys in the menu and everything but it didnt seem to help. Anyone know wtf Im doing wrong?

I posted this stuff below earlier its probably not necessary but it might help explain the problem, i dont know.



Hi I just downloaded the ZSNES cuz I want to play some of my old favorites, so to test it out i tried to use the Commodore64 one on the sight.
I could get it to the opening screen of the game where it says press start to play or select for info, but if I press any buttons it goes black then to a blue screen with a bunch of @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@s and then a pink with a bunch of |||||||||||||| and it's all frozen and corrupted and i have to go back to the loading screen.

I dont know if maybe i'm pressing the wrong buttons or maybe its just this particular file, or maybe its somethin wrong with my computer. I tried to look at the FAQ and the Readme but I'm completely lost, so if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it since u guys have alot more experience with this than I do thanx

EDIT: I tried to do the bouncing ball one on this site too, and again i could get to the opening screen and everything was fine, including sound, and i could change the starting level, the options, etc with left and right, but when i tried to press enter to play the game it goes to a black screen and stays there until i exited to the load menu again.

System specs? Which DirectX do you have installed? Which version of ZSNES?

I have DirectX 9.0 and ZSNES v1.42
I have Windows ME which seems to fuck EVERYTHING up, and I just bought a new graphics card not too long ago, i think it was a GEforce4 or something. I know we've bought some extra RAM in the past and thats pretty much all i know... It should be enought to make this work. Sorry i cant tell you more but i dont know terribly too much about this kindof stuff.
Im going to try downloading the WIP one, i dont know if that'll make it better or worse.

how long was Windows ME out also what made it suck so bad was windows 98 better
