Default Sigh... I'm inexperienced with this, and I'm having save problems.

So, my cousin got me hooked to Pokemon Fire Red. Then he left, along with his GBA. Bored as hell, I downloaded VBA and a Fire Red ROM.

I played it for a short while, and when I wanted to leave the computer, I tried to save and got the message that there's already an existing save file (even though I never saved). OK, I confirm the overwrite, but then it gives me a save error and tells me to "exchange backup memory".

What am I doing wrong? As I said, I'm using emulators for the first time, and I have no idea if I need any other programs or files. Thanks in advance.

    This thread might help you.

If it's not possible, try playing with the save type type options, so if some save type doesn't work, quit vba, then delete the save file and try again wioth another one. Others gba emus might help as well, rascalboy & boycottadvance for example
