emulator retard, need help

hey... im not really new to the whole emulation thing, but im kind of dumbed-down on codes and controllers and whatnot... ive been trying to run a famicom emulator so i can play that old game, Doki Doki Panic, the one Mario 2 was based off of... ive tried many emulators, but none of them respond to my keyboard. ive only used NESticle up to now, so, do i need some kind of special controller to make this thing work?

help me out here, guys.

#1 Use FCE Ultra, it supports all mappers(runs all NES ROMs)

#2 Nesticle is an outdated emulator which doesn't support all mappers.

#3 Nesticle never was a good emulator because ROMs were hacked in the past in order to emulate them properly with it.
(which is why games look so glitchy with it now)

edit/As far as the ROM is concerned, it's a no-no for me to post a link to what you need to play it.
