What are you playing it on?

The '0' is the state slot, and you should just be able to choose where to save it.
Then you can load the file when you want.

What emulator are you using? Sounds like you are using FCEUltra. If so, to state-save, press F5 and to load the saved state, press F7.

Too little info, please state your problems more details as what you posted are in Nintendo column thread (NES, GBA, GC etc.), along with emulators which you are using right now.

Sorry should of been more descriptive. I have the FCE Ultra emulator and am playing The adventures of Link for the NES. I go to file----save state, and then save the file in a designated file on my desktop. Then when I turn my computer off and turn it back on, I open up the emulator, go to file load a saved state, then double click the file and it says it is unable to load. Hope that clears it up. Thanks again in advance.

There two ways of save states load / save in FCEU:

    1) FCEU -> "File" -> "Save State as...": then name it as "anyname.fc*": The file name doesn't matter, take care only with the extension, it have to be .fc and any character more (.fc0 , for example). The reason it's because to load the state after that (here comes your problem), it will filter and show the files with .fc* extension

    2) Run FCEU -> "Config" -> "Directories" -> "Save States": Now select any folder you like, I suggest create a "saves" named or something subfolder on FCEU folder.
Now hit <F5> key to save the game's state, and <F7> to load. You can switch between 10 save slots by hit before save/load <0> to <9> keys. Remember if you switch to slot <2> for example, when you want to load th state later press <2> first. In order to know which slot a save state file (.fc# extension) it's used, look at the last extension character, it should be a number: the save slot.

    Hope it helps
