Default Having a problem with VBA and it's speed up

SO I'm using VBA, and I speed up a lot, and sometimes, the percentage speed goes from 700%-900%, down to 200%, like it's lagging or something like that, but it's basically slowing down, and I really don't want to stop using speed up, because then it'll take a really long time. Trying to play Pokemon Ruby, as a GBA, I got it frmo LoveRoms, so it should be good, but it still does it, and really annoying, anyone know how to fix it?
Also using Visual Boy Advance M878
