    Default Newbie question

I, have just gotten into emulators within the last 2 weeks, to play the SNES games we all loved as kids of course.

I don't see a general info thread for noobs, so I'll ask here. I understand the basic concept of emu's and roms, but would like to learn a lot more. Feel free to direct me to a good learning resource if that's the best option.

A few Q's, sorry they are a little scattered:

    - Are there different types of ROMS? For example, would different emulators require different ROMS specific to that emulator? Are there ROM hacks or variants, and how do you know which is the 'original', as in, most similar to original game? I've had several ROM downloads cancelled by my antivirus, citing trojans.

EDIT: Sticky prohibiting ROM requests noted, request for reliable source removed.

    - I have a 2 week old Lenovo y510p ideapad. Can you recommend to me the best emulator for accuracy?

    - I started with a friend giving me ZSNES and a ton of ROMS. Played some FFVI, and found the sound quite tinny and grainy, also slightly out of sync, in general kinda terrible. I've since read that ZSNES is poorly regarded. Is there a best emulator for FFVI?

    - I have also tried Higan, but cannot get full screen. No doubt there will be black bars at the sides to keep the original ratio, but why also at the top and bottom? Same problem using retroarch. Will there always be black bars above and below as well?

Thanks so much for your help.

Only for arcade emulators like mame.

Yes we can't really talk about this as it is considered offering advice on how to get roms which are illegal. I would suggest reading the rules Bottom line, you should own the game if you downland the rom. Hacked roms come from hacked rom sites.

I've had several ROM downloads cancelled by my antivirus, citing trojans.
That's because people that want to trick you often host things that are illegal. Same goes for movies and mp3's. You just need to learn where to find them, or do your own ripping.

    snes9x.

    use a filter. Try snes9x.

Higan is not for features, it's used for perfect emulation, there is no FS you have to double click and max the window. Try snes9x.

use snes9x and stretch to fit.

Thanks so much for your help.
    Welcome, careful it gets addicting.

P.S did I mention to try snes9x? Cause its best for beginners.
