Need help running pcsx2

My processor is a 4100 Quad core with 3.60 GHz

Shouldn't i be able to run it pretty smooth with that? Every game the menu and everything is fine but then when I start the game and get to the game play it goes down to under 10 FPS. Can somebody give me some good settings/plugins I should be using that are on the lower quality side please
