Good info, but are you sure the GC media are written backwards? Can you point a link or good faq? That would be good to read as I'm not pretty sure about it.
I don't think GC dual layer mini DVDs are released btw.

Let me put this so everyone can understand why you can't burn GameCube games.
The GameCube CD's are 1.5 GB in size and are like a mini-disc. All CD/DVD readers/writers read and burn CD's from inside going outwards. The GameCube does it the other way around, so only the GameCube can understand them. Even if you burn a mini-CD the GameCube will not read them and there is no such thing as a chip.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
You can burn your gamecube games and play it in the gamecube.
But the gamecube requires a mod chip such as Viper.
But not all of the DVD/Mini DVD-R brands works.
You can also replace the gamecube case with a bigger one so a full size
DVD-r fits.
Most DVD-R works except som cheap no-names
Mini DVD-R: DVD-R Traxdata Mini 1,46GB 4x: should work
SONY DVD-R 1.4GB handycam: doesn't work
TDK DVD-R 1.4GB scratchproof: doesn't work
MAXELL DVD-R 1.4GB: sometime boots, but then loose sync
DATAWRITE DVD-R 1.4GB: on some drives it works 100%
