How to Play Wolfenstein 3-D and other DOS / Windows 3.1 games on Windows 7

Note: This guide can be used to play DOS and Windows 3.1 Games in addition to Wolfenstein 3-D.

How to Play Wolfenstein 3-D on Windows 7

Required Files:

DosBox 0.74 DOWNLOAD MIRROR
Wolfenstein 3-D: DOWNLOAD MIRROR
WinRAR Archiver 32BIT DOWNLOAD MIRROR
WinRAR Archiver 64BIT DOWNLOAD MIRROR


Instructions:

Create Folders

  • Double-Click MY COMPUTER
  • Double-Click Local Disk (C)
  • Right-Click NEW Arrow FOLDER
  • Type oldgames and Press ENTER


Extract Wolfenstein 3-D

  • Install WinRAR Archiver
  • Open wolfenstein-3d.zip
  • Double-Click Wolfenstein 3-D
  • In WinRAR Click FILE -> SELECT ALL -> Click EXTRACT TO
  • Click Local Disk (C) on the right, and Click the oldgames Folder and press OK
  • Click OK

Install DosBox

  • Double-Click DOSBox0.74-win32-installer
  • Install and Double-Click My Computer, Double-Click Local Disk (C), Double-Click Program Files (x86), Double-Click DOSBox-0.74, and Double-Click DosBox (On the Right, it says Application)

Using DosBox

  • At Z:\> type MOUNT C C:\OLDGAMES* and Press Enter
  • Type C: and Press Enter
  • Type wolf3d.exe and Press Enter
*There are spaces after the T and after the first C

*Notes*

  • The Arrow Keys Move Your Character Up/Down/Left/Right
  • You can turn full-screen on and off by Pressing ALT+Enter simultaneously.

I like to use D-fend Reloaded as it auto configures DOS Box and the games you put in it. I did so for many of them and they work very well. Then Joy To Key made it very easy to play with a game pad.
