Default How accurate is PSX music emulation? I've heard it's the same as the real thing.

A couple people told me that I don't know enough about emulation when I said that the music is not 100% the same as the actual Playstation. So is there some documentation, proof or and explanation of how it *is* completely accurate? I've been reading around in forums all over the net and haven't found any reason to believe so yet.

I have a lot of PSF files and they're magnificent, but not the same as the original soundtracks. I've heard that the XA format is what the PSX uses, and I've listened very closely to the PSFs vs. my own recordings of the tracks from Tales of Destiny (the official OST is not the actual game music but a remake). They're as close to accurate as I imagine is possible, but only for that game. A good example of PSFs not being accurate is Xenogears, the track "Invasion." The real PSX track has a ton more reverb in it.

So I'm confused. Do emulators use the XA format? Is this truly 100% accurate? If so, which plugin can accomplish it?

If there's a way to emulate the music perfectly I would gladly use my computer for all my games. I just am not sure now if there is a way.

Since no emulator is 100% accurrate, it's very accurrate. It also depends on the plugin you use.

I personally think its one of the more accurate parts of emulation. Kinda hard to not be, but like Jale said, 100% is not a welcomed or liked term in the emulation world. It is just not piratical when you emulate something, it would be nice, just not practical.
Original, the only way to play.

It's not "piratical" in the slightest to complain about lack of 100% emulation. ePSXe does a really awesome job though with the right plugin, the one I use is very good.
