Nestopia - keyboard controls not fully responding

This may sound like a computer problem, but I will try posting here first.
I am running Nesptopia 1.4.1 and am using OSX 10.5.8. I am playing the old Nintendo NES version Super Mario Brothers. I am discovering that in certain worlds the controls won't allow me to perform actions fully to jmp chasms or onto higher elevations.
For example, in World 4-3 I jump onto one platform, then a second and kill two Koopa Troopas. Then in trying to jump to the next higher platform on the right, I find I am unable to jump that high.
I have found something similar in one of the Level 8 worlds where the only way I could jump a wide chasm was by using Game genie codes.

I am using only the Mac keyboard.
Is this a common problem? I can overcome it with Game Genie but was wanting to finish all levels without using cheats.

hey, coldcash57. I'm only making a guess here but I think it may be the emulation for the keyboard. It sounds like its not detecting the full key press and or not telling the emulator of the proper event. Can you try a gamepad?
