Emulator Problem: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow Link

So I was trying to use the Visual Boy Advance to link Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue to trade Pokemon (as it is the only way to fill up the pokedex)
I'm not sure if this is even possible since they are Gameboy Color Games....
I open the 2 visual boy screens on my comp and get everything setup. It says they are connected, but then the nurse tells me "This space is for 2 people to link up with a link cable" or something like that. Basically the exact same thing she says when I'm NOT connected.....
Am I missing something? Do I need to use a different emulator? Is what I am attempting even possible? Thanks in advance for your help.

What you are trying to do is 100% possible. But you don't seem to be using the correct emulator. You need to get an emulator called VBA Link. It has full support for Linking two Gameboy Color/Advance games. http://www.vbalink.info/download-gba-emulator.htm Oh and click Download VBALink 1.72 LAN edition! because that one seems more stable and I use that.

I also have this problem with these games(and Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal versions) and I tried the 1.72 LAN edition, but it still doesn't work!
