PSX Emulation Cheater Problem

I tried installing it to use some cheats on Castlevania: Symphony, but after I did and picked my cheats and started the game I couldnt get it to work at all. I restarted the emulator but didnt pick any cheats just went right to the game, it started up fine but the game moved slower than before and its annoying. I played some other games and they seemed ok but there was a lot of the audio skipping like it was stuck on repeat or had an echo.

Any tips?

don't use more than 9 codes
