Cant use Save state

Whenever i try to use save state a message pops up saying "Error Battery Save" on pokemon fire red but i've tried it on other roms but the problem is constant, is there some patch to download or what? To add i'm using a mac and the mac version of visual boy advance

I'm having the same problem. No rom that you load up will be able to create freeze states or battery saves. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If its Save states, then i have no clue, but if its regular saves, then go to options, go to emulator and change the save type to Flash128k.
If you end up changing the save type you may have to completely restart the game like i did.
