At this point no one knows. It is too early to tell. Just buy a PS3. It is a little more affordable. Save ur money!

The ps3 is one of the fastest computers around.. This is why some people buy just a sp3 for that need.

For emulation you need at least 3 to 5 times the power the original required.. So how i the heck do you plan on doing that?? Do you have a cray computer in your garage...

PEOPLE!!! stop asking about the ps3, ready the existing many topics on the matter.. YOU WILL NOT SEE A PS3 EMULATOR IN YOUR YOUTH!!!! Forget about it..Not going to happen. At least one that does more then displays stuff. You have a much better chance with ps2..

How come people keep asking these qeustions.
if you see a high-end pc struggling to play ported ps3/xbox360 games.
then see a high-end pc struggling to emulate ps2.

what makes you think it can emulate ps3? 0_0

There are no dumb questions, only dumb people

Buy a PS3. I tried the Xbox emulator and it's pretty damn sluggish, even on my fast computer (PS1 runs like a charm though). If the Xbox original doesn't even have decent emulators yet, I doubt PS3 will have any for a LONG, LONG time.

I'll revisit this thread in 20 years. Maybe the PS3 will just be like the NES is now.

By the way, I hate Sony. Just f****** hate em. Keep betraying me, you fat b*******! Sorry for the rant.

That is what happen when you go the easy way and become a console gamer. You get to know no freaking idea what you talk about when it comes to PC power. How could some body think a PC struggles to play a game that was developed for consoles also? Consoles runs equivalent to DX9 and PC has gotten DX11 (which is a whole new world) and I do not want to talk about freaking resolutions, shaders, AA up to 24X, anisotropic filtering and buffering that you can get out of a good video card. I want to see an XBOX or a PS3 to run CRYISIS at ultra-high settings. OH! I was forgetting, consoles can not run DX10.

This is not to disrespect consoles gamers, this is only for those guys who speaks about emulation without doing their homework. When you are a PC gamer eventually you will need to dig deeper in the world of computer architecture and then you can not stop cause there is always something new in town.

You've missed the point by a mile, this is about emulation not some fanboy PC vs Console thread. As a rule we don't do that kind of thing here. As it stands current PC's are nowhere near powerful enough to emulate current gen consoles, not because the consoles are more 'powerful' or better but because of the number crunching power required to emulate hardware in software.

Dear FatTrucker

I completely understand your point, however if you noticed THANAMELESS's comment, he clearly expressed "...you see a high-end pc struggling to play ported ps3/xbox360 games. then see a high-end pc struggling to emulate ps2..."

Emulation problems actually have more to do with the fact that the field is not well explored, we have some algorithms out there trying to do the job, and however there is a long way to go in terms of software development not in terms of Hardware.

The best example I can think about is LINUX vs. Windows. Software architecture, policies, etc. Makes Linux to be a more powerful and reliable system than windows. Nevertheless we all have to live with this freaking "Virus" for a while yet even when it cannot get all juice out of the hardware. Indeed to say that I use both of them.

Thats because the vast majority of end users aren't computer literate. Linux is great as a tool for someone who understands how computers and software work, for your average Joe (who make up by far the majority of PC users) its virtually useless. Then there's the whole commercial aspect. Linux can be what it is because investment in PC hardware and software is funded by commercial applications, if everything was freeware, shareware etc, the investment wouldn't be there and PC's and the Web would (in terms of users) still be back where they were in the mid 90's and limited largely to business users and committed enthusiasts.

As I understand it the biggest barrier to emulation of modern systems is Copyright which prevents emulators from using the most efficient methods available and having to resort to reverse engineering and software emulation using non licenced properties.

You are absolutely right about copyright issues preventing a better world for emulation. Also we have some designer's whims involved when building any kind of system. Especially when designers are from Japan. Believe I have worked with some of them (different field) and they have a different conception of life. What happens is when you think about yourself to be the best of the best, and then there is no other place to see and take a look for better ideas. Nevertheless, as some people in this forum are aware of, PS3 hacking has good progress and close to be accomplished. And here we go again "closed system" vs. "open systems". If Copyright and closed systems make companies more profitable, Why PC games sales up 8 times more that some consoles? A PC is an open System, you can tweak, overclock, customize and some idiot people even make illegal copies of games. What is the end result? Cheaper games when release time; forget about 50% discount after 1 year of release. And the guys still make money, why? Because there are more PCs in the World than all versions of PS, XBOX and Nintendo Consoles together. That is why I always insist, PC Gaming is cheaper at the long term. You replace your Video Card and then you are ready for next Game generation, no need to spend more money in a new system, but I will stop right there cause that is another subject. I really hope one day (even if that happen in 5 year from now) we could get a PS3 emulator if SONY does not put money on the table for that designer not to distribute it.

and i have video proof.i myself don't have it as my pc's specs are crappy...although it does work cuz i can run the ps3 menu.
i also have some youtube videos from different users showing the emulator

Yeah what he should have written is you won't see a PS3 emulator actually running anything playable or enabling you to play PS3 games on anything other than a PS3 in your youth.....so effectively he was spot on.

All it does is muddy the waters and provoke lots of requests from the uninitiated asking how, when and why. Until there's actually anything worth reporting its far better to report nothing, than trying to get people's hopes up in an effort to look clever.

No you can't. If you think you can or you're willing to believe shill vids on the internet then I wish you the very best of luck with that, its your time and money you'll be wasting.
