Thread: MAME Sound?

  1. #1

    Default MAME Sound?

I realise that It'd be incredibly lucky if anybody had the same set up as me but as its doing my nut in I'm going to ask anyway.

I have a C-media CMI8738 sound card that outputs 6 channels using the most up to date driver. Unfortunatly the most up to date driver doesn't work with MAME, at all.

If I revert back to an older driver I get sound but its all coming through the surround speakers and not through the subwoofer....

Obviously I know I'm not gonna get surround sound but all I actually want is the base to come through the sub with the rest of the sound coming through a couple of the other speakers...

    Anybody got any ideas?

haha. i had that exact sound card... and boy o boy it gave me endless issues! do yourself a massive favour and look into a creative or asus xonar sound card.

Actually, and quite by accident, I've got this working.

It seems that If I use the newest driver and connect everything up properly then it only plays sound through two speakers. But if I use an older driver and only connect the channel for the front speakers then I can get sound through four speakers and a separate bass channel through the sub.

Its not surround sound, but then not many 80s arcade games used 5.1 anyway... and I now have real meaty sound on SFII !!!
