    Default MAME Slow Down

On some games in MAME most from 2000 and up will slow down my Computer but only when I exit the game the hard drive runs more. so I restart the computer to get the speed back.

My computer is 1.7Ghz AMD 32 bit Chip

    Windows XP Service pack 2

    448 Mb of shared ram

If I was to update to more ram could that fix the slow down ?

More ram will help a bit, however, for modern versions of Mame (v0.106 upward) your PC is a little underpowered. Newer versions of the emulator are significantly more system intensive than older ones, and a 2Gb processor and 2Gb of Ram are a reasonable benchmark for good compatibility for all games.

Also bear in mind a lot of the more modern arcade games emulated in Mame either still lag on any system regardless of spec due to the incomplete state of the emulation or require blisteringly quick Core 2 Duo machines to run with a stable framerate.

    Hope that helps.
