Thread: Front End Questions

    Default Front End Questions

Alrighty, I've been out of the emulation scene for a bit however I know how they work, and how to configure and about roms and thinks of that nature.

However, my friend has an old Dell PC, which we want to make strictly into an emulation machine. What we plan on doing is hooking the PC up to his television (His TV has a VGA port so it's no issue) And putting the sound through his stereo receiver (already done, so sound works ok)

However, what I'm looking for to take it to the next level is a nice frontend, that launches as soon as the machine does.

So in a perfect world what we would love is, boot the machine, it takes you right to the frontend, with a wireless mouse, or possibly media center remote, you then seelct console, and then game, and bam it opens right up in said emulator and your off and running.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for software that would be good for this, it can either be Windows based (any flavor) would be awesome, however if it's a Linux based app, I can go that way to.

    Thanks so much!

    Eric

Perhaps you should give MAMEWAH a try. This is not just for MAME, as the name suggests.
Also, don't be scared because of the site design
This is an excellent multi-emu frontend.

As finnicky as emulators are, being completely independent of each other not sure if this is even worth it. I use a 360 controller with pinnacle that can browse around my desktop and leave shortcuts to the emulators on the desktop. Tried to set it up so I didn't need a keyboard, but it was too much work so I just settled for needing a keyboard for loading games.

I currently have mamewah set up with over 20 different emulators, each emulator has its own gamelist with a custom skin and screenshots. The whole thing is controlled with a PlayStation 2 pad, from browing the lists, changing gamelist, to launching the games all at the touch of a button.

Very easy to do with most front-ends.
