Running Sega Genesis emulators on a PSP Slim and Lite

I am aware that it is easier to hack the old PSP but I want to know is it possible to run emulators and roms on a PSP Slim and Lite? I dont want to buy one and then realise that I cant run any Sega Genesis/SNES roms on it as the Homebrew community really interests me. If it is possible, can you explain what I need to do to hack the PSP Slim and Lite to play them and UMD ISO's?

Also I am aware that the 1.5 Kernel wont work on a PSP, what exactly does this hinder? Does it mean there will be problems running games?

Your help is much appreciated as I am new to the forum and have read the noob guides but didnt find a clear answer

I modded mine for a really low price to version 3.71 and i can run only NES ,GB,and Neogeo pocket ,with it. I tried all the GENESIS and SNES emulators ,but i don't know if i am configuring them bad ,but i couldn't manage to get them to play with my PSP.
