How to configure a gamepad/controller on epsxe?

Can anyone please help me on how to properly configure a gamepad on epsxe v1.7.0? I currently own a Thrustmaster 3in1 gamepad which works great on NES and SNES emulators. Having trouble understanding the gamepad setup in epsxe? All help is greatly appreciated.

I've tried going in there. Gamepad>port1>pad1> but from here my gamepad doesnt show up on the list like other emulators (NES and SNES). I tried pressing the buttons on my gamepad and nothing responds. Any help is appreciated.
