Thread: MAME Prolems. Could someone help?

  1. #1

Default MAME Prolems. Could someone help?

It seems like half the games I download for MAME give me this error: "The following game is missing one or more ROM or CHD images"

Does anyone know what the problem is?

    Thanks

you need to use a rom renamer / checker. like romcenter or cmpro

Mame roms have to match the mame emulator, and that errors is telling you that that is not so.
Original, the only way to play.

Certain games need a bios, ie NEO-GEO games need the negeo.zip bios...certain games need CHD...certain games need parent roms. it would help if you said which games you are trying to play

Checks out MAWS. its the greatest site for figuring out which files you need to play a game in MAME.

In addition to all the above roms in mame are periodically updated when better emulation or more accurate dumps become availbale meaning that a rom that works with one version of mame might need to be updated to run with another version. If its just renaming clrmamepro will do the job but if it needs additional files then you need to obtain an updated rom.

Some games in mame require a rom and a CHD (Compressed Hunk of Data) image. CHD's are generally a few hundred MB to a couple of GB in size and are mainly used for arcade games that either employed a Hard Disk, CD or some other form of mass storage in the original cab (eg Killer Instinct, SFIII etc).
