Gens dosnt work?

Okay, here's the deal, I have used Gens on many a computer, and many a version also. But for some unknown reason, it doesn't work on my current computer. I run it, and I see the form and it says idle, but I never see all the gray static lines. It just freezes and I have to close. Can anybody tell me what to do? Oh, and I have tried with many versions, so don't tell me to try this version because I probably already have.

I know about Fusion and it works, but dosn't support Kaillera and I don't know how to use netplay, I posted a thread asking about it a few days ago.
though if you could give some more info we can try and get your gens to work.
what kind of info?

As a start post a copy of your gens.cfg file here.

Nothing overtly wrong there, so my first suggestion would be to try re-installing Direct-X as its possible you're missing a required dll or something.

Well, I have Dial up, and it would take a while to install it again. So would it be possible for you to tell me all the dLLs that are needed so that I can check for them? Thanks

There are dozens of them.

Direct-X9.0c should be included with any PC game you've bought in the last 18 months. Just browse/explore the disk and double click on the DX install icon.

Ok, I installed DirectX 9 again, and discovered that that didnt work. So I just thought that I would try running Gens as the administrator. So when I did it it said something like this: DirectInput Error. Need DirectX 5. This seems silly to me since I have 9.

Well gens requires Directx 7 so it seems there's definitely an issue with your DirectX install.

I would download the latest DX9.0c from the microsoft site and do a fresh install of it. All versions of DirectX are backward compatible with previous versions so if its reporting components missing from DirectX 5 then there's a problem with your DirectX install, even possibly a wider problem with the windows registry.

If you are running with a legal and updated copy of Windows then you can either repair the install using your windows disk or do a completely fresh install.

I DID reinstall DirectX9 like I said in my previous post. My computer came with Windows XP. I got it around June of 2007, and Gens never worked on it, not even right when we got it...

Don't really know what else to suggest. It definitely appears to be driver related either a DX component, a graphics driver component, or something else thats become detatched from the registry.

Dependent on how badly you need gens to work Its worthwhile making sure all drivers (graphics, sound and chipset) are up to date, windows and Dx are up to date. If that still doesn't work then I'm stumped. Maybe the machine has on-board graphics which can cause problems with some emulators.
