upcoming sega content release

a co-worker turned me onto this, this afternoon.

DRX, a member of the Sonic Retro Forums, has done something unprecedented in the gaming community. After years of research and detective work, he has gotten his hands on a treasure trove of materials from the golden age of SEGA, including hundreds of prototypes, documentation, and possibly other things as well.

It's not currently known how much of the material he plans to make public, but he has confirmed that he is going to release the Sonic the Hedgehog prototypes this coming Saturday, the 23rd. A large community of Sonic fans have been searching for prototypes and lost levels in the games for many years now, and to document their accomplishments so far would be beyond the scope of this article. Suffice it to say that there are a lot of people looking forward to this release.

seems some guy is about to release to the world a huge collection of orgional sonic the hedgehog content that never made it out of segas offices. including prototype sonic the hedgehog games that never saw the light of day.

hope he also hosts some more of the content he has collected.

not quite all the content that article i linked to promised. there are still 1000 new prototypes. however i didnt see the concept art and other goodies. who knows either not out yet, i missed it, or just bad journalism. i tired to get more info before the release but you really have to jump through a ton of hoops in order just to post a question on their forums. stuff that would take me hours and hours to learn before i could post.

Sort of... Hes got hold of a CD? full of unreleased prototype sonic games, which contain levels and possible characters? that were never in a final release.

There is a beta of sonic2 that has been floating around for the past 10 years which contained levels not in the final release.

EDIT: just read the article. Its not just sonic games but other games aswell.

^yep. actually i went farther and read the stuff on his page and on the forums he regulars. according to what i read it said he bough all of these and dumped them. (also said a prototype has about $100 street value to start).

im still downloading the release so i dont have an exact count of what all is included. its alot though.
