Default Hex editing Sega CD games

I've recently been looking into trying to Hex edit some save game files for Sega CD, in particular the games i've been working on is 3rd World War and Vay. I only know a little bit about hex editing and I was curious if anyone with some more knowledge could help point me in the right direction.

I have been looking at the stats or numbers that I want to edit in the game and I think I have found some of the offsets, but usually when I find one I see it about 2-4 times in the save game and when I edit it and try and change the value and load my save file again I can't seem to make it take.

I have been trying to edit the .brm files mostly, I heard that the save states don't work for sega cd.

IF anyone out there can offer me any tips or would be interested in helping to edit some of these games let me know.
