I just downloaded the MAME emulator, and shortly after I run it (double-click the exe) it asks me if I want to view documentation. No matter what I click (yes or no) is automaticly closes MAME.

If you are planning to use MAME and you have problems running the command line version I suggest that you should try either MAME32 or a frontend for the version you already have.
Everything you need is at this page.
Note: If you use a frontend instead of MAME32 I suggest Emuloader.

the buttons r default...ctrl=fire, Alt=another button, space=another button, cursor keys=directions
the only ones working for me are left control, left alt, and the arrow keys... that's 2 buttons, but most arcade games I play have 3 to 6. Is it very difficult to remap them? or does someone know all the defaults?

why dont u buy and instal a joystick with as many button as u want?
Read mame's faq for details about all keyboard's buttons (p=pause, esc=escape etc etc)
