    Default MAME Help

I downloaded the latest version of MAME from their website. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get the darn thing to run. After downloading, I extract it to my desktop, at which point two folders: "sys" and "docs" are then saved to my desktop. I opened both of them and tried to look for a starter or installer or something but no luck. I'm sure it's already blatantly obvious, but I'm a computer idiot. I'd really appreciate your help and thanks.

First. Don't extract on your desktop. Rather extract it in a folder on your desktop. Second, rather get MAME32 than MAME from HERE

Next your going to want to get the roms for the games you want. Use google for that. Also keep in mind that some games needs a bios file also.

    Unhappy Re: MAME Help

Thanks so much for your help. I have MAME 32 and it seems to work fine. I found a rom for Die Hard Arcade (US). I always get an error message "Required files not found." Could it be that the rom is for the older version of MAME or something? I've tried downloading it from a few different sites but I get the same error message.

Also, I've tried both extracting the downloaded files to a new folder and opening it directly with MAME. Same error message both times.

You need the ST-V Bios to play that speciffic game. Look for "stvbios" on google. Do not extract the roms.

So, I found the ST-V Bios. What do I do with them after downloaded? I tried opening them with Mame as well as saving them in my mame folder. Either way I still get the same error message and I can't get the game to run. Please forgive me I'm new to all this and I appreciate your patience.

Go look in your MAME32 folder, you will see a folder called "roms". Just place the rom and bios file both in it. Then run Mame32 and from the "File" menu select "Audit all games".
