It bothers me that the 360 failure rate reminds me of the random chance of getting a disease in life. Microsoft better get this fixed very soon.

Yeh it helps in the cooling.

Basically AnAutisticDog's Xbox 360 got the three ring because of a hardware failure. His 360 has probably got too hot so all the solder that holds the components together have cracked breaking the circuit.

There is a towel trick (I do not recommend this), where you rap towels around the Xbox and turn it on. The temperature gets so high inside the Xbox that the solder expands, sealing the cracked points. But this is only good for around five days, plus the high temperatures aren't very good for the other componenets inside the Xbox.
