Problem with linking up with two pokemon games (VBA)

Alright I have a save game from Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver.
When I open up the first VBA window it doesnt matter which Pokemon game I use they both have the continue option on the menu so the save game is there but for some reason when I open up the second window to link up it doesnt have the continue option in the menu no matter what pokemon version I play.

i tried linking pokemon silver and crystal and .....this happened:
"your friend is not ready." on both games. Linking works fine between fire red, leaf green, ruby, sapphire, and emerald.

Edit:I just found out that VBA-link can't link Gbc games. <_<

i went back and tried linking gb and gbc games with my gba link cable. it also says the whole "your friend is not ready" thing. i know it works with gba sp, but not with a normal gba. maybe someone should make a link for a gameboy/gameboy color emu.

Is there a point of linking up both games while using a VBA? I mean, there are cheats to obtain anything including the current Pokemon prior to D/P.
