running emulator on linux

ok im running ubuntu linux. Is there a emulator to play nintendo 64 games on the computer meaning emulator. If anyone knows a good one to use let me know also one that isnt really much about compiling from source unless thats the only one available

I don't think there's any available for Linux, but you can try using WINE to run Windows native applications and libraries. Since it may not work at 100% compatibility, it's a start.

I'm an Ubuntu user too. Excellent isn't it? If only all the emulators were as good as Zsnes is on it....ah well.

If it's N64 action on Linux that you're after, Mupen64 is your friend. I've got it myself and it's pretty good. It runs Mario64 OK and others. It's on version 0.05 at the moment on Linux, but I'm currently running a begging tour of the Emutalk forums to get them to bring out the newer version (0.6) on Linux. Hey, go there and aid my cause!! If enough of us ask for it, it might happen. I did actually contact the guy who makes Mupen64, and he says he intends to update it for Linux, but can't say when that'll happen. Still, that's good enough for me.

I have UBUNTU LINUX 6.06 LTS. As far as I am using linux , I was able to run perfectly ZSNE , XMAME , ePSXe and VBA.Well If your PC is powerful enough , you can emulate the windows emulators with the WINE but remember that the VGA is set to a default 16 MB VGA and there is no soudn.However you can always comile wine yourself : make&&make install but remember to change the scripts in the make files...Same for emulators.About N64 emu ... never heard of it really.

Just a thought. I just want to give you an advice, that's all. I type Nintendo 64 emulator linux in google and I found mupen64 can do that. Google is your best friend.

Look in the debian stable releases. FreeBSD has a few emulators. Qemu, qemu+kqemu, xen, and virtualbox can run windows as native applications. You then make an image from the disk and mount the image with the command line.
for qemu it is qemu -cdrom name-of-image.iso -hda name-of-windows-image.img -m (amount of memory in megabytes use at least 256) -sound (choose sound driver) -boot c. This will allow you to boot the virtual system and run the game within the system.

Do you not think that people would have already tried google before they asked for help?

Personally Google is the first place I would go if I needed help and I would recommend, nae, expect everyone to try there first.

Really I don't see why you as a Mod go looking for items other users could easily find themselves. You must have heard the "Give a man a fish" saying.

Only time I'll personally look for something is if I know a little bit about it and want to clarify my own information before posting something as fact or in situations where I know specific terms that the user may not have tried which may yeild better results (case point the guy looking for a Mega Drive emulator for the Dreamcast probably searched Dreamcast emulator and not Dreamcast emulation)

Although maybe your just a much nicer person than all of us

mupen64is the best n64 emulator for linux but runs slow on 32 bit linux, it's better on a 64bit linux with direct rendering installed.
