Re: List of codes for roms
Thanks alot for the list of codes. I'm just starting to get into downloading and collecting ROMs for the Nintendo 64, SNES and NES and don't know what most of the codes are. Do you happen to know what f1, M1, t1, h1C would mean? I also wanted to ask what the best codes would be to download games? I'm guessing ones that are USA games (U) and have a (!) after it for a good dump. Wow, that didn't sound good....Thanks!

Re: List of codes for roms
Depends on who did the release or who was the last one to rename the rom, but if the filename is correct, then a standard rom naming convention should apply.
This usually works for me:

I have the same question, I live in UK?
Re: List of codes for roms
Additionally to above list, I found these notes:
Quote:
STANDARD CODE NOTES
[a] This is simply an alternate version of a
ROM. Many games have been re-released to
fix bugs or even to eliminate Game Genie
codes (Yes, Nintendo hates that device).
[b ] A bad dump often occurs with an older
game or a faulty dumper (bad connection).
Another common source of ROMs is a
corrupted upload to a release.
[f] A fixed game has been altered in some way
so that it will run better on a copier
or emulator.
[h] Something in this ROM is not quite as it
should be. Often a hacked ROM simply has
a changed header or has been enabled to
run in different regions. Other times it
could be a release group intro, or just
some kind of cheating or funny hack.
[o] An overdumped ROM image has more data
than is actually in the cart. The extra
information means nothing and is removed
from the true image.
[t] A trainer is special code which executes
before the game is begun. It allows you
to access cheats from a menu.
[!] Verified good dump. Thank God for these!
Re: List of codes for roms
Thank you for these, this just saved me a lot of work. :D
Re: List of codes for roms
Thanks, really helpful :)
Re: List of codes for roms
Thank you.........................
Re: List of codes for roms
It's annoying how not all ROM dumpers mark these.
Anyway, why are there ones that simply have nothing beside them like the SMB1 Europe ROM? That game is correctly dumped but Nintendo broke the sound.
