Newbie No Name

see im a newbie here but there are som things that i dont understand wicht i cant find answers for.

first thing is: what means emulator. is it a word for a program look-a-like thing wicht makes you able to use programs for other system or controller or?
like downloading a program wicht makes you able 2 play playstaion games on a pc?

Second thing: are all the emulators on the main page for pc or are they for the platforms that it says title above the platforms?

2. Post properly. Avoid those "able 2 play" (using "2" instead of "to"). This is neither a chat room nor a cellphone messaging.
3. Yes, emulators lets you run stuff designed for other systems, like consoles.
4. The emulators listed on the main site are all for PC, some are for Mac and Linux.
