Kazaa Lite Shut Down
Speaking with RatFaced, one of the Kazaa Lite forum moderators today and our contact at K-Lite, I have uncovered news that the Kazaa Lite K++ project has been shut down by Sharman Networks on grounds of copyright infringement.
The project, which had been set up to block spy and ad ware within the Kazaa Media Desktop Program has achieved notoriety within the P2p world through its simplistic approach and success in reverse engineering the Kazaa application.
However, the program infringed on the copyright of Sharman Networks, the company that now own and program the Kazaa Media Desktop application, after the purchase of the code and copyright in 2002. The FastTrack (Kazaa) network is financed through advertising systems, which Kazaa Lite K++ does not include, and so was seen as a threat by the owners.
Sharman have threatened legal action, and ordered that the offending content be removed from the official Kazaa Lite sites, including http://www.kazaalite.tk/ which now contains no reference to the existance of the application.
RatFaced said that the decision was “Ironic, that Kazaa is complaining about copyright issues, especially as K-Lite ++ stands for everything that Kazaa CLAIMS to stand for... but fails to deliver.”
We will perhaps never see Kazaa Lite again, but we can hope that users will remain aware of the spyware that is hidden inside the Kazaa application, which is used to finance the creation of the software.
eMule and WinMX offer spyware-free alternatives to Kazaa.

I visit the K-Lite forums fairly often so this is annoying and saddening. Kazaa Lite is much better than Kazaa, I would never use Kazaa, EVER!
Yet, I find it odd that Kazaa is getting angry about these copyright infringements. Don't they realise what their program is mainly used for?
EDIT: Scratch that, there's nothing funny about this, it may be ironic but irony isn't always funny.
Someone edit the title to read, Kazaa Is Teh Gay.

I used to respect the girls and boys at Kazaa, now I'm just disgusted.
Also, they win the prize for the most ironic, hypocritical thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Ever.
-
The time has come for a new Kazaa client to be written that is both clean and Open Source & has another name. That way they wont be able to shut it down.

i just dislike kazza very much... i dont know why.. mabey cause its pink and yellow and looks like it was programmed during a gay parade.
check out shareaza! it uses edonky, bittorent, and gnuatlla 1 & 2 (the kazaa networks) its spyware free (not really.. its peer2peer), ad free, and has most the options of kazaa without the gay parade! check it out. and if you want to use edonky make sure you get the 1.9 beta!

I sort of wish that the Kazaa network would get shut down, along with all other easy to use downloading programs. That way only nerds would be able to obtain illegal files.

i perfer the term geek to nerd...
nerd sounds more negative for some reason. geek sounds like... well.... me! :D
-
now that kazaa lite is gone, so what? just use regular kazaa and scan with spybot sd every once in a while and delete everything except cydoor (i think)
-
No, I'll never use regular Kazaa, you can still use Kazaa Lite. This isn't affecting the network (Kazaa Lite uses the same network as Kazaa), but there won't be anymore progress made on it and you can't download it any longer. Just make sure you keep your old Kazaa Lite setup file.

"geek" refers to a canrival freak who bites the heads off of live chickens. I don't know anyone who would prefer that to nerd.
I'm sure plenty of mirror download sites will pop up now, considering how popular Kazaa Lite was.
