VBA Gamesharking

Hello Emulator Zone,
so I have been using the Visual Boy Advanced for several years since my guy friend gave me a whole handful of games, I only really play Pokemon roms on it though.

I however have never used the gamesharking feature, I did once try it while on my older laptop(I bought a new one last March), but could not get it to work. I suppose I was not understanding how to enter the codes and turn them on since it's not an actual gameshark device which is what I am used to.

I am interested in giving it another try because I have begun to once again play a few Pokemon roms which I can get to work(most of my roms which are actually patched hacks mysteriously stopped working back on my old lappy and I have never gotten them to work again. I lost all the save files for them too, it keeps claiming them "unsupported file types").

So can someone tell me how to place a gameshark code into the visual boy advanced and how to turn the code on and off?
